POPE

Glen Pope is a trans songwriter, playwright, and performer based in Maine. He started playing piano at age three with no lessons. His mother took him to the Carnation Stage at Disneyland, and he was so locked in on the performance that the pianist called him up and asked if he played. Glen said he did, sat down, and played "Mary Had a Little Lamb" by ear. The pianist told his mother he had a gift. She couldn't afford lessons, but she found a used piano, and Glen didn't stop playing.

By eight he was learning trumpet. His band teacher used to say he could put Glen in a closet with any instrument and within two hours Glen would walk out playing it. Glen started writing songs at five, published his first record at thirteen, and toured the West Coast at fourteen raising money for homelessness. In his early twenties he played in several touring bands and built a life around music and performance.

Then life got complicated. His mother died when he was eighteen, and even though he kept trying to stay in music, it wasn't the same. He became a parent young. He went through divorce, single parenthood, addiction, transition, and the long grind of building a career. Music didn't vanish, but it got pushed aside. Eventually he stopped writing, and two decades went by.

Then one day a song showed up, and he couldn't put the pen down.

Then another. And another. Before long he thought he had written an album. His vocal coach listened and told him he had more than an album, and to listen again. When Glen went back through the music and the lyrics, it was obvious. He had a story. That is when he started building the world of We Can See It Now, pulling from the life he has lived and the world we are all navigating today.

We Can See It Now is an immersive rock musical arriving in 2027. It marks a return to the stage and a reclamation of the artistic life he began as a child. The story rises from lived experience at a time when being seen, especially as a trans creator, matters. Glen writes from that place, and the work reflects it.
